I'm really passionate about tech, gadgets and almost everything computer related. That's why from a young age I was tinkering with everything I could find my hands on. I knew I wanted to study something computer related. So I graduated Software Engineering and started working as a Web Developer. Through the years I've worked on eCommerce projects and integrations, accounting and fast loan web applications and enterprise legacy web software. At one point I've co-founded a startup. 7 years have passed, and I've decided to pursue the role of a Product Manager. Why a Product Manager, why not an Engineering Manager, a Software Architect or a Solutions Architect. I like the Product Manager role, because of its importance. It's a bridge between all stakeholders, and it's vital for a product's success. The amount of responsibility in a single person and the diverse skill-set needed attract me the most to this role. My two most valuable skills for this role are:

  • Technical skills and passion. I see it time and time again. People from the business and management have trouble communicating and getting messages across to developers. Managers are interested in the end result. Developers are interested in the way you get to it and which technologies should be used. With my experience as a software engineer, I can easy communicate with both side. I can break down complex software logic into a couple of understandable sentences. And I can turn vague business requirements into a software specification, wireframes, UML diagrams and database graphs. Communication is vital and I can get a point across in both directions.
  • Building bonds. I'm generally interested in people and what they do. However, it was a real challenge starting to work in a company remotely and leading teams, who know each-other but not you. I have a personal approach. I'm really good at 1on1 conversations. I talk with people on private. Listen what their interests are, what are their troubles at work, outside of work. We talk about hobbies. And that's how I build trust. Trust and understanding are crucial for a great team.
The last two years I've actively studied this role and worked as a Technical Product Manager, managing 3 products and leading the cross-functional teams behind them. Now I'm ready for the next step in my journey of becoming a Product Manager.
